Derith JarvisToday we decided to shake things up with the From The Ground Up podcast. We have an interview with Derith Jarvis of Mohr Partners to share with you.  We know not all of you were able to make it to ECONOMIX 2016 and we wanted to give you a sneak peek into one of the sessions from our time in Atlanta.  In their conversation, Derith and Ron dive into life, leadership and what the future relationship of site selectors and economic developers will look like. Peter WirthPeter Wirth joined Newmark Knight Grubb Frank’s Dallas office in 2010 to fulfill a commitment to strengthen and expand the integrated services operation of the real estate platform of Newmark Grubb Knight Frank’s Global Corporate Services division, being one of a distinguished and select few certified GCS Brokers. Peter assists in the development and implementation of strategic initiatives to companies around the globe and has a keen understanding for fully leveraging Newmark Grubb Knight Frank’s operational consulting arm with the global real estate strategy offerings. Peter’s specialty is location strategy, helping clients identify the fundamental for where they should be and why.

Peter has assisted such clients as Kohl’s Department Stores, Nokia Siemens Networks, AT&T, SuperMedia (Verizon Wireless Yellow Pages), Just Energy, Momentis Energy, Hancock Bank and Huntington Bank, among others. Peter is recognized by both his peers and his clients as a source of trust and integrity.

Prior to joining Newmark Grubb Knight Frank, Peter served at GVA Cawley as a global corporate services associate. He has been awarded Power Broker, CoStar, 2013; and Top Office Deal of the Year from DCEO Magazine, 2013.

Peter holds a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Texas Christian University’s M.J. Neeley School of Business, where he majored in both finance and real estate.

Bayduss-colorAs executive vice president and founding partner of Site Selection Group, Brett Bayduss is a critical part of the management team and manages all aspects of the location advisory division.

Bayduss brings 15 years of location advisory experience to the company. He has completed more than 400 site selection projects for clients, including American Express, Becton Dickinson, Marriott, McKesson and Medtronic.

Prior to joining Site Selection Group, Bayduss was vice president of the Corporate Site Selection Group at Trammell Crow Company, where he conducted in-depth site selection research of locations across the world on behalf of corporate customers.

Bayduss was a team recipient of the 2003, 2004 and 2005 William Dorsey Site Selection Award, presented by Site Selection Magazine. He was recognized for his career accomplishments by the Dallas Business Journal for the “Heavy Hitter” award in 2005 and the “Top 35 Under 35” in 2003, 2004, 2005 and 2008. He also was recognized as a “Power Broker” by the CoStar Group in 2007, 2008 and 2009. Bayduss is a noted expert in trade publications, including as Area Development and National Real Estate Investor.

He is a licensed real estate salesman in the State of Texas and holds a master’s degree in geography-site selection from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and a bachelor’s degree in urban planning-geography from Binghamton University.

 

Betty 2Betty McIntosh is a senior managing director at Cushman & Wakefield’s Global Consulting Group. Betty has over 20 years’ experience in assisting major U.S. and international clients in making strategic decisions related to expansion.  Betty has represented clients in many different fields, including automotive, consumer markets, industrial products, pharmaceuticals, healthcare and steel to name a few. Betty has conducted site selections and assisted in developing financial strategies for numerous clients, including Hyundai, DaimlerChrysler, Mobis, Ford Motor, Benteler Automotive and more.  Betty obtains tax and operational savings for various types of projects through her strong relationships, tax knowledge and negotiation skills.

Prior to be promoted to managing director of the business incentives practice of  Cushman & Wakefield, Betty was a director of the location incentives group. Betty was also a partner of the state and local tax team at KPMG, LLC.

Betty is nationally recognized as an expert on economic development issues and has been quoted in publications including The Wall Street Journal, Tax Management and CFO Magazine. Betty is currently Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of MultiState Taxation and Incentives. Betty is a Certified Public Accountant and serves on the board of directors and is a member of the executive committee for the Georgia Foreign Trade Zone Association.

Betty received a Bachelor of Business Administration in accounting from the University of Mississippi and a Masters in Taxation from the University of Memphis.

Derith Jarvis

Derith JarvisAs managing partner of Mohr’s Site Selection and Incentive team, Derith oversees all site selection activities for national accounts and one-off transactions in markets across North America. Mohr Partners’ site selection department deliverables include market availability analysis, mergers and acquisitions support, comparable studies, real estate market trend analysis, labor and demographic analyses and GIS mapping to name a few. Derith also personally oversees the process of negotiating economic incentives at all levels of government on behalf of Mohr’s clients. Derith joined Mohr Partners in 2006 as the Director of Research and Site Selection.

Prior to joining Mohr Partners, Derith spent 8 years with Nielsen Media Research, a leading provider of television audience measurement and related services. During his time at Nielsen, his responsibilities included preparation of sample market analyses, including demographic studies, and managing the demographic makeup of assigned Nielsen samples. He was also responsible for implementation of several different research methodologies and overall field operations management for Nielsen’s New York market.

Derith has been a featured speaker at various industry events including Expansion Management’s Roundtable in the South, Consultant Connect, Southern Economic Development Council’s Meet the Consultants, Area Development’s Consultant Forum, Teamwork Louisiana Conference, Kentucky United Economic Development Conference and several other state economic development conferences.

In 2008, Derith was named Mohr Partners’ Mentor of the Year. He also served in the United States Navy for four years and received a Bachelor of Science in Business Management from the University of Phoenix.

Rose Burden

Rose BurdenRose Burden is an Executive Director and the Southeast Leader for the Business Tax Credit and Incentives Practice at Ernst & Young LLP, a US member firm of the global EY organization.

Rose assumes a leadership role in identifying business incentive opportunities for clients in the six-state region.  She has secured millions of dollars in savings for clients with facility or capital investment expansion projects.  Rose has also helped clients realize significant benefits in areas such as state and local grants, local property tax reductions, training program grants and tax credits, expedited permitting, reduced land costs, sales and use tax abatements, enterprise zone benefits, income tax credits, infrastructure grants and utility rate reductions.

Rose has more than 25 years of project management and economic development experience in local and statewide development.  She has served as the lead project manager on numerous corporate relocation and expansion projects in industry sectors such as financial services, telecommunications, technology, broadcasting and entertainment networks and manufacturing and distribution.

Rose has facilitated the approval of property tax and other incentives for more than 200 Fortune 100 projects in North America and globally.  She has an exceptional track record of establishing relationships and building support teams with key government officials and the private sector, delivering positive economic impact projects for clients and communities.  A primary goal is to maximize business incentives and bottom line savings for clients.

Prior to joining the firm, Rose directed economic development and corporate expansion programs for Fulton County (Atlanta based), and was a former senior site selection project manager for Oglethorpe Power Corporation.

Rose received her BS in Business and Marketing from Florida State University.  She is a graduate of the Economic Development Institute – University of Oklahoma.  Rose completed economic development certificate requirements from Georgia Institute of Technology.  She is a Real Estate Licensed Professional in the state of Georgia.

Rajeev Thakur

Rajeev ThakurAs Senior Managing Director of Location Strategy with Newmark Grubb Knight Frank, Rajeev Thakur is focused on market entry strategy, domestic and global location strategy, portfolio optimization and real estate advisory services. Rajeev has managed and completed location strategy and site selection engagements for clients across many industries including manufacturing, financial services, life sciences, back office and call centers and headquarters in North America, Asia-Pacific, and Europe. Select clients include eClerx, Enbridge, Entergy, Citigroup, Capital One, Nordic Windpower, Computershare, TriZetto, Starwood, Hancock Bank, Soitec, American Express, Bank of America, Pfizer, Cadila Pharmaceutical (India), Booz Allen Hamilton, Aon Insurance, Deloitte (India), and American Red Cross. Rajeev is also engaged in developing target industry and business attraction strategies for economic development agencies across the United States.

Prior to joining NGKF, Rajeev was a management consultant in Deloitte’s Global Strategy & Operations practice. Prior to becoming a consultant, Rajeev had a career as an architect and urban planning consultant and managed large commercial mixed use development projects in South and Southeast Asia.

Rajeev received his Masters of Business Administration from Rotterdam School of Management at Erasmus University, Netherlands, concentrating in corporate finance. Rajeev also received a Master’s degree in urban and regional planning from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, with concentration in economic development, and a Bachelor of Arts from School of Planning & Architecture, New Delhi, India, with focus on urban design.
